Do I need to seal my pavers?
There are many sealants on the market that each offer different features and performance. Sealing your pavers will allow you to protect the surface from stains, and help avoid the appearance of effloressence, or keep your pavers looking wet. However, when you seal your pavers once, you will need to repeat the sealing process, as the sun will wear the sealants over time.
Can I lay pavers over my existing concrete?
Yes and no. Whether you can install pavers over your existing concrete surface depends upon the condition of the concrete, and the way critical elevations line up. Adding pavers to your concrete surface will raise the surface a few inches or more, depending upon your paver selection, and may mean that doors don't open, or your driveway won't match up to the curb. Many times we can demolish sections of concrete that will allow us to slope the paver surface to match the existing elevation demands. Our consultants can guide you through what can and cannot be done.
My pool deck needs resurfaced, can I use pavers instead of cool decking?
Pavers are an excellent alternative to acrylic decking around pools and can often be used to resurface peeling cool deck. However, elevation considerations are critical. Standard pavers are 60 millimeters thick, though there are thinner alternatives. Consider two important issues: First, the deck will now be two to four inches higher above your water line, and second; you now have to resurface the existing deck face. This can be done, however, and the benefits of paver pool decks opposed to poured concrete are often worth the effort.
The joint sand appears to be washing out of the joints, is this a problem?
Unless most of the sand is washed out of the joint, it's probably not an issue. Most of the functional sand is deep within the joint, and is unlikely to wash out. It can be unsightly, however. To keep joint sand in the paver joints, consider paying slightly more to use locking polymeric paver joint sands. These sands are incredibly reliable, and not only resist washing out of joints, but also prevent weeds and insects from penetrating your paver surface.
What types of colors and patterns are available to me?
There are several paver manufacturers that supply the Phoenix Metro area, so you have many many options of colors and styles of pavers. Our representative will be happy to discuss paver patterns with you during your consultation.
What is the difference between tumbled and non-tumbled pavers?
Non-tumbled typically have smooth surfaces and tight joints. They have a clean and modern aesthetic. Tumbled pavers go through extra processing at the manufacturer and come out with a worn and weathered look. They look more antiquated and really suit some properties and projects. Many paver manufacturers also offer textured paver surfaces to give you even more options to make your pavement just what you imagined.
